FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

ANIMALS/MEAT:

Do your animals receive vaccinations, antibiotics, or hormones?

Our meats are natural and have no hormones, GMOs, or MSG. We do, however, use meat preservatives for shipping. This includes salt since our meats are marinated, seasoned, and cooked before they’re shipped.

Where does your meat come from?

All of our meat is locally sourced from ranches across the Intermountain West (ID, WY, UT). We use as much Utah meat as is available to us. However, there is not always a continuous supply of local meats to meet our demands. Additionally, sourcing beef and chicken has been a challenge since COVID, so adjustments must be made. However, it is 100% natural grass-fed and grass-finished meat.

Are all of your animals grass-fed?

All our beef is grass fed/finished, while our pork and chicken are free range and pasture raised. Everything we sell is sourced from local farms here in the Intermountain West.

rbGH rBST-Free Dairy Products, Antibiotics

Some U.S. dairy farms inject the genetically engineered hormone rBGH. We do not add hormones, nor do we have any dairy cows.

Antibiotics, GMO?

Our meats are natural and have no hormones, GMO, or MSG.

Is Just Meats lab grown?

No, our meat comes from real livestock sourced from ranches in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah.

Are the animals pasture raised? Is the beef grass fed and the chicken free range?

Yes, our beef is grass fed/finished and our chicken is free range. All the animals are pasture-raised.

Is your meat GMO fed or given non-organic food?

Absolutely not. We follow USDA guidelines with regards to feed. However, all our meat is grass-fed and grass-finished.

What is the quality/rating of the meat (especially beef)?

We source Choice on beef, which also represents the macros in Recipal — a software much like the MyFitnessPal app.

ALLERGIES/FOOD INGREDIENTS:

Peanut Allergies

We don't currently use peanuts, but we have had and may use peanuts in the future. There is the possibility for cross contamination in our facility, so if you are severely allergic, please use your own discretion or contact your doctor before ordering.

Soy Allergies

The meats/and sauce packets with soy (gluten free soy sauce) are mentioned in the ingredients. This way one can know for themself if that meat/sauce has soy in those specific meals.

What oils are the meats cooked in?

We cook using olive and avocado oils. We do not use seed oils, such as canola oil.

Are the meats Gluten Free?

We use all gluten-free sauces and our meats are gluten-free, too. We urge you to read the ingredients and nutrition labels in case this ever changes. While our products are gluten-free, they are not celiac-safe, as there is a possibility of contamination in our facilities. Please use your own discretion or contact your doctor before ordering.

Are Just Meats rbGH rBST (tested)?

We do not add hormones nor do we have any dairy cows.

Why do you use soy sauce if it’s one of the biggest allergens in our food supply today? Why not use soy-free?

Just Meats creates authentic restaurant-grade meats. We use the best ingredients and cooking technology to provide the same experience of a restaurant. Soy sauce is a key ingredient in Teriyaki sauce, Sweet & Spicy, and our Braised Beef sauce. We have tried different ingredients to imitate soy, but it just doesn’t taste the same. We did, however, make the distinction of being gluten free.

Are there any alternative substitutes for the sauces?

Yes, our sauce packets can be substituted for chicken stock, beef stock, vegetable stock, or applesauce.

Do you sell bison meat?

We have Bison Burgers with our Smoked Classics line. Keep an eye on our website, we’ll announce it there when we have it for customer’s to order.

Do you use sea salt?

Yes, all the salt we use is sea-salt.

What is included in “spices” on your nutrition labels?

Spices in our ingredients include pepper, salt, paprika, chili powder.

Are your meats Keto friendly?

Outside of our pork, our meats don’t have a high enough amount of fat to be keto friendly. However, all of our meats are high protein and low carb. Please refer to the nutrition labels on our website to make sure that our meats accommodate your diet.

What allergens are in your products?

All our meats and sauce are gluten-free. The meat and sauce packets do contain gluten free soy sauce, which is mentioned in the ingredients. We don’t currently use peanuts, but we have in the past and may use them in the future.

Are you organic?

No, we are not organic, but we are the closest thing to it.

Why does my label list so much salt?

It’s most likely a typo. All of our meats contain between 100-500 mg of sodium. With meats being pre-seasoned and pre-marinated there will be more sodium than just buying uncooked frozen meats.

What are renderings?

Renderings are the by-products of our meat. The French call it au Jus, others refer to it as drippings. Ultimately, it’s the liquid that renders in the cooking process. We remove most of the fat and what’s left is beef, chicken, or pork stock.

Is your meat Halal or Kosher?

No, it is not.

CONTAINERS/LABELS:

Are the plastic meat containers BPA free?

Yes. We are in compliance with FDA/USDA regulations and California Proposition 65. They contain no materials or additives containing Bisphenol A (BPA).

When I weigh my meat, it’s more/less than the listed weight. Why is that?

All products that are packaged with a listed weight can have a 80% compliance, or 20% variance, in regards to labeling in order to be compliant with the FDA. Our packaging is compliant with the FDA.

Is the weight cooked or raw?

The weight advertised is the cooked weight.

Food tray dimensions

9.75x 6.75. This is always subject to change in case we decide to go with another tray design.

Why is there a difference between the cooked and raw meat weight?

There are 16 oz of cooked protein in each container, along with 2 oz of sauces or marinades. When meat is cooked, there is a loss of weight. For example, our brisket has a 50% yield loss in cooking. That would represent an 8 oz raw or 4 oz cooked piece of meat.

How am I supposed to open the vacuum seal?

The vacuum sealing is strong to prevent the meat from spoiling during transit. It should have corners with longer plastics hanging over it to pull from. If that doesn’t work, we recommend using a knife to cut alongside the inside of the edge of the container instead of trying to peel the vacuum sealing off.

FOOD STORAGE AND PREP:

Can the meat be microwaved?

We do not recommend microwaving our meat, but if it’s the only option, using a microwave is fine. We do, however, recommend adding a little extra sauce to add more moisture when you microwave the meat. Microwaving the meat nukes the moisture and changes the texture into a more chewy meat.

Can I freeze the sauces?

Yes, you can freeze our sauces — and our meats.

Best by dates?

Unopened meat will last 10-14 days in the fridge and 4-6 months in the freezer. Once the seal is opened, the meat should be consumed in 3-5 days. We will most likely add a date sticker in the future for your convenience.

Is the food delivered frozen?

The meats are vacuum sealed and flash frozen when we ship them out. Since UPS has 1-2 days to deliver the meats to you after we ship them. The meat should be chilled when they arrive or cool to the touch, not hot. Be sure to refrigerate or freeze your meat as soon as it arrives.

DISCOUNTS/PAYMENT:

Why is there a minimum for the order? Can’t I just order a few meats?

costs with UPS, orders must be at least $75 so that we can still make a profit. We don’t offer smaller order shipments at this time.

Why isn’t my discount code working?

If you’re using a discount code for one order, you must use a separate discount code with your next order for your one-time order. What is Just Meats shipped over with to keep the food good?

Your Just Meats order is shipped with insulation all around the inside of the box. Your order will then also have ice packs and or dry ice or both. The dry ice will most likely evaporate by the time it makes it to your home, so it may not look like it was there. But the box should still be cool or cold. Never hot to the touch or smelled spoiled.
